Global Warming Revisited

Global warming is still of primary concern to politicians, world-wide.

And Still I wonder, why?

Based on the amount of greenhouse gasses we are putting in the atmosphere, yes, we can affect the current glaciation period (that is right, we are still in a period of glaciation, an ice age) and extend the current period of non-advancement of glaciation.

First though, let's be clear:  we are in an ice age.  Ice ages end.  Naturally.  At that point all the same fears that are being shared by politicians and environmental activists WILL happen whether we like it or not.  An ice period on Earth is indicated by having permanent ice.  Currently we have 10% permanent ice coverage on our planet and we are in an inter-glaciation period.  In other words the glaciers have receded, but as they did several times in the past 2 million years, they will advance again.  CO2 and Methane are two of the greenhouse gasses we have been pouring into the atmosphere, methane being the more powerful of the two.  While atmospheric gasses are PART of the equation, there is adequate indication that it is not the ONLY aspect of the planetary temperature cycle.

ANYWAY... for the periods from the pre-Triassic through to just 2.7 million years ago, we were in a state of non-glaciation... in other words the Earth was pretty much free of permanent ice.  Yeah, it affects sea levels, it affects the weather, but it does not mean we are all going to die.  The action of spreading information in order to manipulate people and governments is FUD:  Fear, Uncertainty and Dread.  It is a purposeful effort to control and manipulate behavior in people other than the one's spreading the FUD.

As I have said before, I am not against cleaning up pollution... there are far better and more immediate concerns with pollution:  species extinction, poisons that cause illness and genetic damage.  These are evident in the declining amphibian numbers, and in the increase in respiratory illness in people.  These are just TWO things... there are many more.  And they are presenting right now.  Global warming will make it a pain for coastal cities at some point, but global warming in and of itself is not a poison, it is just a pain.  Some people claim it will foster spreading if disease, etc.  But that would occur with carrier migration, and in this current day and age, that is moot since humans travel all around the world, all the time.  We are our own worst enemy... and in the end, disease will ALWAYS be with us.  As micro-organisms continue to evolve to survive, we will keep getting sick...

Alright, I guess I have ranted enough.

Global Warming and the arctic ice sheet

Just read this:  https://www.msn.com/en-us/weather/topstories/eurasian-ice-sheet-collapse-raised-seas-eight-metres-study/ar-BB12VMB6?ocid=msedgdhp

So, I feel like there is a lot of FUD (fear, uncertainty, dread) being pushed out as global warming.  Do we really believe that the we are privileged to not suffer the slings and arrows of nature, even when exacerbated by our own actions?  Anyway, I will not deny that the global average temperature has gone up if the majority of climatologists say so... not my place.  I will deny its importance at this time.

First, why are we focusing on global warming and rising sea levels as our primary concern?  When chronic respiratory illness is skyrocketing, amphibians and other sensitive animals dying out, don't you think that focusing on POLLUTION would be a better use of our time?  Cleaning up our act, cleaning the air... it would save LIVES and have the potential bonus of mitigating climate change.

But do not be let astray... climate change is not something we completely control.  The vast majority of climate is decided by major sea and air currents that circle the world.  As plate tectonics shift the land masses and ocean floors around, these currents slowly but inexorably shift.  These shifts divert warm and cold water flows into different paths, and this in turn affects the air currents and moisture levels in the air.

55 Million years ago the average, global temperature was 16 degrees Celsius (28.8 degrees Fahrenheit) warmer than today's average.  In fact, a mere 10 million years ago the average temperature was significantly higher than today.  The crux of the matter is we are currently living in a cold cycle of cool and colder weather (growth and recession of glaciers).  The cooler weather also causes drying in many locations, and more water is locked up...

My point is this:  climate is going to change with or without our help.  Let's focus on more important things.  Focus on the deadly toxins we hurl into the air, ground, water, etc.  If the Earth feels the need to correct itself by a little overheating, so be it.  We can survive that.  Life has survived FAR worse and we are the most clever of all life forms with a strong will to survive... so, let's focus on what we can to save our children's lungs and the sensitive animals like amphibians, which are an important part of our ecosystem.

You want to kill a couple birds with one stone?  Bring back train travel, use nuclear power instead of coal and oil, use solar power in states that have a ton of sunny days...  invest in that sort of thing.  Install scrubbers, ... do the same sort of things that activists would scream about for CO2 emissions, but do it for more compassionate reasons.

Sorry for the ramble.  It is late.  I should be asleep.

On Climate

Look, I don't doubt humans polluting our atmosphere might contribute to climate change.

I do, however, have a HUGE problem with the mass hysteria associated with this.  So I want to lay out a couple of things for people to chew on.

1.  55 million years ago the average temperature was about 16 or more degrees CENTIGRADE (not Fahrenheit) warmer.  That's a LOT.

2.  We are currently in one of the COLDEST periods in Earth's history.

So... why the hysteria?  Who is pushing this "agenda" of climate change?  Even scientific research done by respectable institutions will say things like this:

"We show from paleoclimate data that the eventual global warming due to doubled CO2 will be about 3°C (5.4°F) when only so-called fast feedbacks have responded to the forcing. Fast feedbacks are changes of quantities such as atmospheric water vapor and clouds, which change as climate changes, thus amplifying or diminishing climate change. Fast feedbacks come into play as global temperature changes, so their full effect is delayed several centuries by the thermal inertia of the ocean, which slows full climate response. However, about half of the fast-feedback climate response is expected to occur within a few decades. Climate response time is one of the important 'details' that climate models help to elucidate."

Please NOTE the effect of man's potential interference.  3C.

Life survived and THRIVED when the average global temperature was 16C warmer.

So for the love of everything sane, PLEASE STOP!  STOP IT.

Climate is far more complex that most people realize.  It is a combination of ocean, air, solar and other influences and OUR influence is the least of these things.  Continental drift alone has manipulated climate over the history of our planet.

Seriously.  Please.  Just STOP it.

Now, if you want to find something to be concerned about, look at the effects of pollution on LIFE, not on temperature.  The effects are FAR more devastating.  Do the research yourself.  Research amphibians to start, then check out respiratory ailments over the past couple hundreds of years.  It will be upsetting...  but it is far more important than a minor temperature fluctuation.
